16th Annual Mohican Wildlife Weekend Set For End Of April

MANSFIELD, OH - The 16th Annual Mohican Wildlife Weekend will be held on April 28th-30th. 

The weekend will celebrate wildlife habitats, heritage, and history at nine different sites in Ashland, Richland, and Crawford counties. Workshops and demonstrations will be available that will interest beginners and experienced naturalists. 

This year's sites include Gorman Nature Center, Mohican State Park & Lodge, Mohican Outdoor School, Malabar Farm State Park, Ohio Bird Sanctuary, Pleasant Hill Lake Park, Charles Mill Lake Park, and Lowe-Volk Nature Center. 

The Environmental Education Council of Ohio, Mohican Trails Club, and Mohican Fly Fisherman will be the participating organizations. 

This year's theme is Ohio's Pollinators that will raise awareness about the importance of bees to the health and vibrancy of our food system.

Activities include nature crafts, wagon tours, bat and owl demonstrations, fly fishing demonstrations, birding boat tours, photographing birds, and more.

Registration is not required, but programs will be offered on a first come, first-served basis. Tickets must be purchased for the birding boat tours.

Those who attend are invited to the Welcome Reception on Friday, April 28th, 6-7pm at Mohican Outdoor School. Denise Ellworth, Program Director, Honeybee and Native Pollinator Education, Ohio State Department of Entomology will discuss gardening for pollinators.

    Ashland University's Coburn Gallery will be hosting two exhibitions, the 2017 AU Senior Art Exhibition as well as a ceramic works exhibition by Cleveland artists Stephanie Craig and Todd Leech, from November 30 to December 17, 2017.
