Opera And Festivals Dominate The Weekend In Entertainment

MANSFIELD, OH - Mid Ohio Opera presents, "La Boheme", a Puccini original, about Love, Passion and Tragedy, at several beautiful locations this month.  This is Mid Ohio Opera's first try at a traveling tour.

There are several dates to see the opera:  August 18th at St. John's United Church of Christ (on the square) in Mansfield - free, 7 p.m.; August 20th at Wooster United Methodist Church - free, 2 p.m. matinee program; August 24th at the Mansfield Art Center - free, 7 p.m. program, August 25th Mansfield's Liberty Park - free, 7:30 p.m. program, and you are encouraged to bring along a picnic to enjoy.

Further south in Knox County it's the return of the Dan Emmett Music and Arts Festival on the streets of Mt. Vernon, August 10-13th. This marks the 30th year commemorative event. 

The festival includes crafts and trades shows, juried fine arts, and colorful activites for all age groups throughout Mt. Vernon.

Friday evening catch "Knox Idol" at 9 p.m. for a 1-thousand dollar purse up for grabs. Recording artist Lee Greenwood will make his way to Mt. Vernon Saturday evening, for one show only. Tickets for Greenwood are $20 each and are required for this concert. Log onto the festival webpage at www.DanEmmettFestival.org.

Another summertime festival further north in is the Huron County Fair on next week, August 14-19th.

Featured entertainment is rising, country music artist Tucker Beathard. Beathard's albums include, "Momma & Jesus" and "Fight Like Hell".

Grandstand shows will also feature Cheer Bonanza Tuesday, the OSTPA Tractor Pull with semis on Wednesday, Motocross Racing on Thursday, a Rough Truck and car competition Friday and a Demolition Derby on Saturday.

Just a few days remain for the Richland County Fair with the Richland County Tractor pull on Friday night at 6 p.m. at the Grandstand and the highly popular Demolition Derby, Saturday night at 5 p.m..
