MANSFIELD, OH- Nearly 300 people from throughout North Central Ohio will walk, donate and volunteer at the 2017 Walk to End Alzheimer on Saturday, September 23 beginning at 9:00 AM at the OhioHealth Ontario Fitness Center.

The walk is part of a nationwide effort of the Alzheimer’s Association with a two-purpose mission: to raise awareness of the disease; and to raise funds so it can enable the association to provide local support and services as well as to enhance research efforts.

Walker check-in begins at 9:00 AM, with the walk ceremony at 10:00 AM. The strategic site of this year’s walk provides participants with an outdoor venue as well as an indoor option for those who desire a less strenuous experience.

OhioHealth fitness instructors will lead participants in warm-up exercises, which will follow the traditional Promise Garden Ceremony.

Ohio Senate President Larry Obhof will address the group. Sen. Obhof represents the 22 State Senate District, which includes Ashland and Richland counties.

Alzheimer’s disease is the 6th leading cause of death in the nation and Crawford County, the 4th leading cause in Ashland County and the 5thleading cause in Richland County.

Among the top 10 leading causes of death, it is the only one with no known prevention, effective treatment or any way to cure it.

Linnell Allred of Ontario, executive director of Apollo Healthcare Services of Mansfield, is this year’s chair of the all-volunteer planning committee, comprised of representatives of Ashland, Crawford, and Richland counties.

For more information, contact Cindy Jakubick, development and outreach coordinator for the Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter, at 419-522-5050.
