MANSFIELD, OH - Flu occurrences are on the rise, and Richland Public Health is urging those who have not yet received their flu shot to get one, and those who have to consider getting a booster.

This all comes in the wake of a press release sent out from the Ohio Department of Health, saying: "We had another pediatric flu death over the weekend in Columbiana County. This now makes 4 for the season. Last year we only had 1 child flu death in Ohio."

Beth Armstrong, an epidemiologist with Richland Public Health, says the strains of flu that are going around are the H3N2 and the Yamagata type-B. While it is not unusual to see these strains in circulation, the total flu season is starting later this year than usual. Armstrong warns that this late resurgence of the flu may mean people who were vaccinated earlier this year do not have as strong of an immunity.

Richland Public Health recently ordered another batch of flu vaccinations which are expected to arrive by Friday, February 17th. To schedule your flu shot, callRichalnd Public Health at 419-774-4700.
