MANSFIELD,OH– The Richland County Foundation Board of Trustees approved grants totaling $1,073,665 during its April board meeting.

Of that total, almost $174,000 went to fund youth in the community over the summer including 24 paid interns at Richland County nonprofit organizations from the Fran and Warren Rupp Donor Advised Fund.

The Board of Trustees approved a grant from the Community Fund to the City of Mansfield Parks Department to support a summer recreation program. The money will pay for eight full-time summer interns. Because of this investment, hundreds of children will have a place to go weekdays during the summer for outdoor play and lunch.

The city will pay for supplies and will partner with a local organization to feed the children lunch.

A committee of Foundation Board of Trustees and community members approved 20 Summertime Kids grants totaling $39,416. The grants of up to $2,500 were given to support creative, educational and fun-filled activities for hundreds of Richland County children.

The Board of Trustees approved $1,000,649 in grants from donor advised funds which allows individuals and families the opportunity to make grant suggestions to favorite charities. Donor Advised Funds are a flexible and convenient alternative to a private foundation. It is also a way to keep charitable contributions anonymous, at the preference of the donor.

The following organizations received grants from donor advised funds:

  • Bellville Neighborhood Outreach Center
  • Catholic Charities
  • Domestic Violence Shelter
  • Downtown Mansfield Inc.
  • First Congregational Church
