Donald R. Harley, 80, Crestline, passed away Friday, April 28, 2017 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, due to complications of a stroke.

 

Don was born in Crestline, on June 7, 1936 to the late Clarence and Gladies (McClain) Harley.  He married Patricia J. Christini on August 1, 1970 and she survives him.

 

Don graduated from Crestline St. Joseph Catholic School and Crestline High School in 1954. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline where he served as an altar boy and usher for over 40 years. Don was a mail carrier for 31 years retiring in 1998. Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as Secretary. An avid sports fan, Don rooted for The Ohio State University, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians. He enjoyed watching TV and reading his newspapers, the first section to come out was always the sports section.  Don also knew a short cut when driving, it might take you longer but it was his short cut.   

 

In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter, Dr. Judith Ann Harley, Crestline; brother, Tom Harley, Crestline; sister, Norene Carr, Mansfield; numerous nieces and nephews, in-laws and many friends; and his beloved dog, Dusty.

 

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia “Pat” McFarland, Rosemary Heiby, Ruth Harley and his brother Jack, who died in WWII.

 

Friends may call Wednesday, May 3, 2017 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 223 W. Main St, Crestline where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline, with Father Christopher Bohnsack Celebrant.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Crestline.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School or St. Joseph Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
