Mehock Relays Runs Under Sunny Skies

MANSFIELD, OH-  Several area athletes performed well at the 85th running of the Mansfield Mehock Relays on Saturday at Mehock Field.  

In the boy's 4x800 meter relay the Shelby team of Danny Friebel, Tyler Green, Alexander Moore, and Sam Logan held off a charge by Ashland's Boaz Belsterling to win in a time of 8:07.3  Prior to that, the Shelby girls 4x800 team of Maddie Heimlich, Kearsten Morrison, Macy Lynch and Makenna Heimlich also came across the finish line first in a time of 9:44.9.

In the girl's high jump, Galion's Marisa Gwinner won the event with a jump of 5'4".  Gwinner also took fifth in the long jump at 15'10".  In the boy's event, Mansfield Senior's Joe Ellis repeated as champion with a jump of 6'4".   

Taking second in the girls long jump was Shelby's Kennadie Goth with a leap of 16'9.5".  In the boy's long jump, Mansfield Senior freshman Angelo Grose took third with a leap of 21'11.5".  Teammate and junior Jornell Manns won the event with a jump of 22'5".

In the boy's discus, Ashland senior David Amstutz finished runner-up with a throw of 180'4".  Amstutz won the shot put with a toss of 59'.  

In the girl's 100 meter hurdles, Mansfield St.Peter's Alysee Wade took first in a time of 14.3.  Wade would take second in the 100-meter dash in 12.1.

In the girls 4x200 meter relay, the Mansfield Senior team of Jakari Brown, Alaya Grose, Nayasha Franklin, and Alaysia Grose came in first in a time of 1:45.1.  That same team would finish second in the 4x100 meter relay in 49.3. 

In the girls 300-meter hurdles, Ontario's Rachel Miller took third in a time of 45.4.  On the boy's side, Galion's Collin McCollough was a winner in a time of 39.5.

In the final team standings, on the girl's side, Gahanna Lincoln was the overall team champion with 126 points.  It was the same on the boy's side as the Lions took first with 106 points.  The top local finisher on the boy's side was Ashland who took fourth with 47.5 points. The top local girl's team was Shelby finishing fifth with 28.5 points.
