SHELBY, OH - The Shelby Whippets used a strong outing from starter Hunter Hoffman to hold off the Clear Fork Colts 5-1 on Monday evening.

The Whippets (10-3) got on the board in the first when Brennan Armstrong reached on an infield single. He then scored one batter later when Alex Paulo sent a RBI double to deep left field. Paulo later scored on a Tanner Elliot RBI single to make it 2-0 after an inning.

The score remained that way till the fourth when the Colts (7-7) got on the board. A.J. Blubaugh walked and later scored on a double-steal to cut the Shelby lead in half at 2-1.

They had a chance to tie the game in the sixth with runners on first and third with one out, but Hoffman was able to induce an inning-ending double-play to end the threat.

"It was a game-changer," said Whippets Head Coach Jon Amicone. "They had first and third with all the momentum. Luckily, Carter Brooks, our shortstop, who has played shortstop since his freshman year, made a great play for his team."

Shelby then put the game away in the bottom of the sixth scoring three times on a Jacob Holliway RBI groundout and a Garrett Caudill 2-RBI single.
