LEXINGTON, OH - Despite graduating eighteen seniors from their run to the regional final last season, the Lexington Minutemen aren't in a rebuilding mode.

The Minutemen began their Summer ten-day workouts on Wednesday with a focus on defense, the catalyst for the program that helped produce the area's best defense in 2016 which led to upsets against Wooster, Clyde, and Sandusky.

"We have some talented youngsters that will be challenging for time on the field on Friday night," said head coach Taylor Gerhardt. "That's always exciting."

The Minutemen return one of the area's more dominant defenders in Junior DB/WR Cade Stover and while he could be looked at as one of the defense's leaders, he chooses to lead by example.

"I approach every day the same," said Stover. "You go out there to get better and that is what you preach to everybody else, but I'm not really a talker. If you do the right thing out there then everyone else will follow. That's what you live by."

On the offensive side, Lexington loses most of their skill position players, but return experience up front which could help the incoming quarterback and running back.

"Obviously, the offensive line is the base of your offense. Without the big guys, what are you going to do?" Said Senior OL/DL Keslyr Hooper. "We have a pretty large-sized line this year and I'd say that our running back being new and inexperienced is going to have a good time because we have a very experienced line and we're going to open up holes for him."

The Minutemen will begin their quest for another playoff berth on Friday, Aug. 25th when they open the regular season at home against Ontario.
