ASHLAND, OH-  The Ashland University men's basketball team stands at 5-3 to start the season but 0-2 in GLIAC play after back-to-back losses to Lake Superior State 82-73, and fifth-ranked Ferris State 91-57.  For head coach John Ellenwood he hopes his troops can get things turned around at home on Thursday evening vs Wayne State.

"We just ran into two tough teams both in the top 25 and both on the road that's a tough way to start GLIAC play.  Ferris State is probably the best team in the country (Division II) and I think we ran out of gas playing them after the Lake Superior State game."

"Biggest thing right now is just playing with effort and understanding what our goals are," says senior Wendell Davis.  We started 0-2, but Lake Superior great team, Ferris State great team, The biggest thing is learning from those experiences and getting better.  You can't hit panic mode."

"We just gotta take care of the basketball," says sophomore Drew Noble.  I think the turnovers were 20-3, 20-4 against LSS.  That's 16 more possessions that they are getting."

It is early season, but at 0-2 in GLIAC play and Wayne State coming to town Thursday, beating the Warriors is considered a must.  "We call it a desperate situation," says Ellenwood.  I think those are the scariest teams to play the ones that are playing with a desperate effort."

Says Noble, "We went down 0-2 in the GLIAC, but we do get to play those teams again.  But going down 0-3 is a different story.  Wayne State is a very beatable team."

"Wayne State (3-3, 2-0) plays hard," says Davis.  They have a lot of good guys a lot of big guys.  The biggest thing with them is they bring intensity every game.  We have to make sure we match their intensity."

The AU men will tip off against Wayne State at 7:30 pm Thursday evening at Charles Kates Gymnasium.
